The Pine Rivers Bowls Club in Bray Park QLD recently upgraded their sports bar with one of AVAD’s projector video wall matrix solutions. The Bowls Club knew exactly what they wanted and through a valued AV integrator they approached AVAD for guidance on the best solution; one that didn’t break the bank, one that was simple; and one that didn’t discount their vision.
Original Scope
Let’s be honest, I’m sure you’ve seen those memes going around about “client budget” vs. “client expectations”. In reality though, I really don’t blame the mindset. Like… don’t you want the best deal for the best price? For example when investing in something, you generally want the best outcome for the cheapest price. But you don’t want to go too cheap and sacrifice the features or wow factor you originally intended.
This was at the heart of debate for this solution. Management knew what they wanted for their renovations but were unaware of the costs associated. This is where AVAD stepped in and helped explain the solution with the integrator.
Originally management wanted a large 6m x 2m video wall with the ability to break each screen up into its own content. They also wanted the ability to break the screen up into thirds or quads as well as spread one large piece of content across the whole image real estate. This was all possible but was way out of their intended price range. “Cue expectation meme”…
The Design
With a short meeting and explanation on the costs of scaling, processing and hardware required for their initial scope, the AVAD team went to work and found a solution on budget and without sacrifice.
Keeping to the video wall style, an eight screen matrix was devised with two Panasonic PT-VMZ60 laser projectors and two Kramer VSM-4x4A video wall matrices. The screen wall was painted to size so each projector’s image was fitted and aligned giving the impression of one large image broken up into sections of content. Each projector could do a quad mode or a single mode with each mode selected via an iPad running Kramer control. Content was connected into each VSM-4x4A via modulation & set-top boxes. To change the content the channel change of each set-top box was done via IR emitters from the Kramer SL-240C brain.
System Control
To control the system Kramer Control was implemented via a wall mounted Ipad as the central control interface to select which projector, which mode, what content was displayed. The simple and user friendly interface was designed for staff to easily understand and operate. The Kramer control interface was designed and programmed by the AVAD team as part of the system delivery.
The Result
This all culminated into a solution that cut cost on heavy scaling and processing and was morphed into a solution of divided content close to that of the artist impression. It keeps it simple, keeps it sweet and aligns with the end users original design.
At a 5th of the cost of the clubs initial quotations this AVAD solution didn’t sacrifice the original design. By all means this could have been completed much cheaper, but… would have probably leaned a bit closer towards those expectations memes. With the utilization of AVAD to help consult, design and program the solution, the AV Integrator had piece of mind the system was sound and the end user aware of exactly what they were getting.
