Kedron-Wavell Services Club Choose Yamaha Commercial Audio for System Overhaul
2020 was the year of hospitality audio system overhaul and with it Kedron Wavell Services Club updated to a Yamaha audio system. Kedron Wavell services club is no small venue, with 24x inputs, 16x zones and 32 outputs the venue managers required a new central control point for the venues source selection, volume and signal level feedback. A newly developed refurbishment kicked along the audio system overhaul and thanks to the Yamaha CIS range and the ProVisionaire Control app the system was designed and implemented for complete control via an iPad. AVA Distribution assisted with the system design, programming and commissioning in conjunction with our valued Reseller, who delivers many professional Yamaha PA systems throughout Queensland.
Scope
Kedron Wavell wanted to cut cost by keeping their existing amplifiers and only adding new amplifiers for the refurbished zones. With the channel count and zone distribution requirements Dante was the best fit for distributing audio from DSP to IO boxes for input into the existing amplifiers. As per control, a roaming iPad was requested to control the system and allow a user to enable preset selection, run paging from multiple microphones and control source and volume within each zone individually.
Design
The solution came in 3x boxes with a DSP and 2x Dante 16×8 Interfaces. The Yamaha MRX7-D DSP as the central audio processor and 2x Yamaha TIO1608-D Dante IO interfaces to distribute the signals. The system ran on the club’s main network with IPs locked, no VLAN or segregation required. For control Yamaha’s ProVisionaire Control software made the control app a breeze to program with the MRX7-D. You simply drag and drop the parameters from the MTX editor software straight into the ProVisionaire Control software buttons and sliders. MTX Editor is for the DSP and ProVisionaire Control is for talking to the modules of the DSP. Once the programming was complete on the PC, it’s transferred by the network to the Kiosk app on the iPad in a matter of seconds.
The MRX7-D is an open architecture DSP allowing all necessary settings and parameters to be implemented to suit the site. Kedron’s TVs were modulated via RF so we needed input delay modules to align audio with the delayed vision. With three paging mics we set up presets to allow regular mic operation for house mics and reception to independently page zones normally as well as each having access to an all zone page if necessary. The club also runs playback of the ODE at 7pm every night which was made possible with the MRX7-D SD card playback and scheduler built in. Extra input I/O was required down the track so additional hardware was installed ready for patching and reprogramming. The IT managers onsite have all the required software loaded onto their PCs to allow remote connection and assistance if needed.
The MTX Editor and ProVisionaire Control software runs hand in hand impeccably in real time. The integration between software and hardware is so intuitive and easy to learn making it perfect for large scale audio distribution and matrix systems. The signal chain is clear and easy to troubleshoot with modules and tracing all providing feedback if required.
Conclusions
When it comes to distributing large channel counts proficiently with seamless real time system control, the Yamaha CIS range covers everything with ease in hospitality audio systems. By having a central control point within the MRX7-D DSP, Dante simply transmitting and receiving via CAT, it’s easy to see why the Yamaha Install Audio range is so easy to use and perfect for not only hospitality, but any audio application.
AVA Distribution runs regular training events on these types of systems with the net round Q2 in 2021. Hope to catch you at the next event otherwise please subscribe to the #avadblog for more system designs and roll outs.
